It’s National Volunteer Week and we want to recognize and celebrate the integral role our dedicated team of volunteers play in our mission to make Western New York a better place for, and because of, immigrants and refugees.
Throughout the year you’ll see IIB volunteers give their time in numerous ways to support our important work we provide in the community. At the top of the list, home setups are core to establishing a solid welcome for newly arrived refugee families as they take their first steps toward their American dream. Volunteers assist every step of the way starting with cleaning and setting up the apartments, transforming them from housing to homes. The things we put in the apartment are thanks to members of the community who sign up to run and support the donation drives that bring us everything from furniture to toiletries for our clients.
Volunteers also help us with event support and hosting international visitors through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), which connects emerging leaders from across the globe with their professional peers in Buffalo to learn about how we solve business, government, societal, or educational problems in the United States.
There are plenty of volunteer opportunities at the International Institute of Buffalo. Click here to learn more about volunteer opportunities here at IIB!
