The International Institute of Buffalo is teaming up with the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA). Recruiters and NFTA employees stopped by our headquarters recently to speak to IIB Job Club and Career Club clients about available employment opportunities.
The collaboration marks an exciting chapter to our robust Employment Services programming and will assist our New American neighbors in finding careers as they begin their lives in Western New York.
NFTA recruiters Christopher Murphy and Holly Carpenter spoke to a packed room about multiple openings for mechanics, drivers, cleaners, and administration. After the presentation, the representatives answered questions and, along with our employment team and translators, helped job seekers fill out applications on-site.
Additionally, operator Daniel Fischer facilitated tours through a full-sized NFTA training bus parked in front of our building on Delaware Avenue. Mr. Fischer took time to field questions while explaining his experiences working with NFTA and fleshing out the daily routines and responsibilities of an NFTA driver.
IIB clients who may not have all the prerequisites at this time will remain in the pipeline as they further develop their skills. NFTA representatives are scheduled to be back for subsequent sessions.
The NFTA is a New York State public-benefit corporation responsible for delivering public transportation to Erie and Niagara counties. Its services include the NFTA-Metro bus and a 6.4-mile rail system, as well as both the Buffalo Niagara International and Niagara Falls airports. NFTA employs approximately 1600 local folks including nearly 550 operators/drivers.
