International Exchanges and Education Coordinator

$18.00 to 19.00 per hour
Job Summary:

Program management at the local level for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) & the Library of Congress’ Open World including professional itinerary, facilitation of virtual exchange meetings, transportation, and cultural activities. Responsibilities also include coordination and assistance with global education programs and community health initiatives. This position requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Qualifications:

Education:          Bachelor’s degree in International Studies, Political Science, or closely related field required.

Experience:        Previous work experience in human services/refugee services/education or closely related experience required. Experience with diverse cultures, project coordination and working in a professional office setting.

Requirements:  

  • Current valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and personal vehicle required.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills, including time management and good judgement.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse team of colleagues, clients, and external partners.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting and communicate with clients from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds and lifestyles.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the organization and our clients.
  • Knowledge of computers, e-mail, and Microsoft Office suite of products/software.
Duties And Responsibilities:

International Exchange Programs (IVLP and Open World):

  • Working knowledge of various Washington-based hosting programs and procedures.
  • Construct competitive proposals to secure upcoming projects that are to be sent to National Program Agency partners.
  • Market Buffalo Niagara region to Washington-based hosting programs and governmental agencies in order to maintain, and/or increase, number of delegations hosted.
  • Development and implementation of community outreach strategies to increase private and professional host base.
  • Coordinate the programming of international visitors by scheduling professional meetings according to State Department program objectives.
  • Collaborate with National Program Agency partners to develop the Buffalo-based portion of each International Visitor program.
  • Work with the Department Director to complete annual Global Ties U.S. Community Partnership Grant and reports. Improve qualitative measurement tools to gauge program success.
  • Foster connections and use various networks of the International Exchanges & Education Department to connect international visitors with administration, staff, and students of local schools and youth initiatives.

 

Global Education Programs:

  • Assist with the annual Speaker Series and Assist in annual grant writing.
  • Assist the department team in planning and coordinating Model United Nations, Academic World Trivia, and Community World Trivia events.
  • Work to develop and expand our global education programs for the community.
  • Assist in planning and coordination of health education initiatives within the department.

Other Duties:

  • Work with Department Director on strategic planning.
  • Assist with the supervision of interns.
  • Collaborate with the Development Department to promote our programs and events on social media.
  • Promote the best interests of the agency.
  • Attend departmental and agency meetings, perform other duties, as required.

Working Conditions:

Office environment requires employees to consistently use manual dexterity in reaching, writing, navigating around the workspace. This position requires fully functional vision and auditory abilities. This position requires standing, sitting, walking, including up and down stairs, lifting and moving items of up to 30-pounds.
