Like it or not, winter weather is in full effect around our region. With snow already on the ground, WKBW TV Channel 7 is doing its part to help all Western New Yorkers adequately ready themselves with a new feature on our lifesaving winter weather preparedness information, now available in 13 languages.
Reporter Maki Becker stopped by to learn why disseminating our instructions is so important this time of year.
“Part of being a welcoming community is making sure that you’re able to share important public safety information in their native language,” said Jennifer Rizzo-Choi, executive director of the International Institute of Buffalo. “You can’t just presume that everybody speaks English.”
In addition to the particulars about the winter weather preparedness information, the feature highlights a handful of personal experiences, provided by folks who’ve experienced firsthand how jarring waking up to Buffalo’s notoriously bone-chilling winters can be for the first time.
