In case you missed it, Executive Director Jennifer Rizzo-Choi sat down with Western New York’s NPR station WBFO to discuss what may be imminent for refugee resettlement with a new federal administration set to take office at the end of the month. In the wide-ranging interview, she touched on challenges the recent rhetoric on immigrants and refugees will inherently raise.
The discussion with What’s Next? host Jay Moran cleared the air while breaking down different immigration designations often confused by the public. Rizzo-Choi spotlighted the refugee community the International Institute of Buffalo works with, U.S. law, and how and why their legal status allows them to bolster the local workforce immediately. She broke down the integral part refugees play in our local and national economy. Rizzo-Choi also discussed what community members can do to help our efforts in welcoming our newest neighbors to Western New York.
