Accounting Supervisor
The International Institute of Buffalo is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial, non-profit accounting, with the ability to lead a team effectively. This role involves overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and providing insightful financial reports. This position has the primary responsibility of working with and overseeing department accounting functions, running bi-weekly payroll in ADP, and assisting grant administration staff. This position has 2 direct reports. This role is required to be on-site, 5 days per week.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years of work experience within a non-profit environment.
- Minimum 3 years of staff management experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Knowledge of accounting best practices in nonprofit financial management and strong working knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and 501 (c)(3) provisions.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, QuickBooks, Blackbaud, Windows-nonprofit desktop edition (or similar) and ADP payroll system.
- High degree of integrity and excellent judgment; maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with excellent follow through and attention to detail.
- Runs bi-payroll and resolves any payroll issues.
- Ensures time and attendance is accurate and in accordance with IIB policies.
- Ensures IIB is compliant with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Calculates PTO time and ensures correct adjustments are made in ADP.
- Works with Director of Human Resources on staff changes in ADP.
- Supervises the day-to-day operational duties of the accounting staff and interns.
- Works with human resources on staff performance issues and disciplinary action.
- Oversees vendor relationships and maintenance of vendor accounts payable.
- Assistance with customer relationships and maintenance of accounts receivable.
- Reconciles all bank accounts and credit cards on a monthly basis.
- Handles bank deposits on a weekly basis.
- Works with departmental directors to provide continuous accurate accounting of the financial reporting system.
- Preparation and submission of employee retirement and 403b remittance.
- Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff.
- Close books monthly and assist with end of year closing.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the accounting system: review financial transactions and invoices and ensure the proper allocation of revenue and expenses to cost centers.
- Prepare documentation and assist with annual audits.
- Investigate variances, report discrepancies and communicate issues in a timely manner.
- Acts as a representative to Blackbaud and troubleshoots Accounting software issues.
- Assist with various grant financial reporting.

On site, in office, 5 days per week. Office environment requires employees to consistently use manual dexterity in reaching, writing, navigating around the workspace. This position requires fully functional vision and auditory abilities. This position may include hours standing and walking, including up and down stairs, moving items of up to 30-pounds.
