Internship Title: HELLO Tutor Intern
Description: Interns are trained by a certified English as a New Language (ENL) instructor to teach basic verbal English to foreign-born clients in a one-on-one setting through in-person, hybrid, or remote tutoring sessions.
Hours: 8 – 12 hours per week / flexible scheduling
Duration: A minimum of one full semester
Supervisor(s): HELLO Program Coordinator
Skill Requirements:
- Ability to provide a “trauma-informed” approach and sensitivity to working with refugees and other vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of diverse cultures and/or willingness to learn cultural customs
- Access to a car/reliable transportation
- Good speaking, writing and listening skills
- Adherence to confidentiality policies
- Flexibility and adaptability to client schedules
General Responsibilities:
- Attend a HELLO Program orientation
- Meet and establish relationships with foreign born clients
- Plan basic lessons for teaching English as a New Language (ENL)
- Share English Language Learning (ELL) resources with clients
- Complete other duties as assigned
