New American Integration Intern
Interns work alongside case managers to provide initial 90-day and post-90 day resettlement and integration services to newly arrived refugee clients through a mix of field and administrative work.
- Ability to provide a “trauma-informed” approach and sensitivity to working with refugees and other vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of diverse cultures and/or willingness to learn cultural customs
- Access to a car or reliable transportation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
- Adherence to confidentiality policies
- Help with apartment setups for new arrivals
- Teach clients how to use public transportation in Buffalo
- Complete grocery shopping for new arrivals
- Schedule and accompany clients to appointments, including but not limited to medical, social services, school and ESL enrollments and employment-related appointments
- Meet with clients that need additional support or check-ins
- Attend educational Community Orientation sessions
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Fill out the Intern Application Form
- Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator and Program Supervisor(s)
