BUFFALO, NY — The Congressional Office for International Leadership (formerly known as the Open World Leadership Center), an agency of the U.S. Congress, will send a delegation of Kazakh experts in Sustainable Energy for Media to Buffalo, NY from May 6-14, 2022. The delegation consists of five professionals and will be accompanied by a bicultural/lingual facilitator and an interpreter. While in Buffalo, the Open World program participants will be hosted by the International Institute of Buffalo.

Prior to their arrival in Buffalo, the participants completed an orientation in Washington, D.C. Delegates had introductory meetings with representatives from the Voice of America, and professors from Georgetown and American University.

In Buffalo, delegates will collaborate on best practices for Sustainable Energy for Media. Delegates will meet staff of Congressman Brian Higgins, New York 26th congressional district, and local leaders in the Buffalo Metro Area. Additional activities include meeting and sharing best practice with field experts at the RENEW Institute at the University of Buffalo, WNED/WBFO, and county and state environmental conservation representatives. The delegation will stay in the homes of local residents who serve as hospitality hosts.

More than 30,000 current and future leaders from post-Soviet era countries have participated in the Open World program. Open World offers one of the most effective U.S. exchange programs to promote mutually beneficial options for depolarized engagement between future national leaders. It is a unique but no less powerful tool for Congress to engage legislatures in critical regions of the world.

The International Institute of Buffalo is a nonprofit, international relations organization. We are dedicated to internationalizing the Buffalo Niagara region through global education for area schools, professional exchanges, and by hosting lectures on topics of international concern. We also assist immigrants and refugees facing linguistic and cultural barriers, in order for them to become productive members of our community.
