Ambassador Foote speaks to audience.

In the first-ever installment of its “Meet the Ambassador” lectures, Ambassador Dan Foote recounted his personal experience in the United States Foreign Service. He also shared his take on how American foreign policy decisions play out in real life. Over 40 people braved the snowy weather to learn more about how American foreign policy decisions play out in real life.

Ambassador Foote is a retired career diplomat. He was named as United States Special Envoy for Haiti in 2021, after a stint on the faculty of the Marine Corps War College. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Zambia from 2017 to 2020. At the time of his ambassadorial appointment, Foote was the acting Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, where he had been Deputy Assistant Secretary. He also served in Afghanistan, Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Iraq, Luxembourg, and Mexico.

IIB’s “Meet the Ambassador” lectures will include a series of events throughout the year, so those currently or formerly in the field can provide insight for those who want to learn more about how world events impact us here in Western New York. The lectures are an extension of the Institute’s century-long educational mission on international affairs.
