IIB Statement on the Sentencing of the Tops Shooter

The gunman who killed 10 and wounded three of our neighbors at Tops Friendly Markets last May has finally been sentenced on state charges to life without parole. While he must still answer the federal charges, this closes one chapter in this sorrowful tale; let this buoy us.

As the judicial process continues, the International Institute of Buffalo continues joining the work of healing from that senseless and racist violent act. Our clients, volunteers, friends, and staff still call the East Side home.

As a community, we remain undaunted. We join the ongoing chorus rebuking hatred and racial divide. Diversity strengthens the City of Good Neighbors.
