On Wednesday, June 7 at 5:30 pm, Executive Director Jennifer Rizzo-Choi will be making a special appearance to speak at the Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo, located at 2351 Delaware Ave in North Buffalo (at the corner of Delaware Ave and Hertel Ave).
She will discuss the International Institute of Buffalo’s role, history, and mission of making Western New York a better place for, and because of, immigrants and refugees dating back to 1918. Additionally, she will explore how immigrants and refugees add to the region’s diversity, vibrancy, and economy. Rizzo-Choi, an immigration attorney, will also elaborate on the distinctions between terms such as “refugee,” “asylum seeker,” and “immigrant” and why understanding them is essential to understanding the local and national debate on immigration.
The talk is a part of the opening month of CCI’s new “Generations” exhibit.
