Internship Title: New Arrivals Intern
Description: Interns work with the New Arrivals Specialist to provide initial housing acquisition and services to newly arrived refugee clients through a mix of field and administrative work.
Hours: 8 – 10 hours per week / a minimum of 4-hour blocks
Duration: A minimum of one full semester
Supervisor(s): New Arrivals Specialist
Skill Requirements:
- Ability to provide a “trauma-informed” approach and sensitivity to working with refugees and other vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of diverse cultures and/or willingness to learn cultural customs
- Access to a car/reliable transportation
- Good speaking, writing and listening skills
- Adherence to confidentiality policies
- Willingness to do physical work and ability to lift 10 – 20 pounds
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate home setups
General Responsibilities:
- Work with case managers to determine client housing needs
- Review housing and apartment accommodation checklists
- Assist with paperwork and housing appointment scheduling
- Communicate with landlords
- Accompany the New Arrivals Specialist to housing appointments, home setups and pre-arrival grocery trips
- Work in partnership with Every Bottom Covered to distribute diapers to families in need, pick up diaper donations, ensure enrollment and tracking documentation is prepared and submitted, and assist in keeping donations organized
- Complete other duties as assigned
