Executive Director Jennifer Rizzo-Choi appeared on the Spectrum News program Capitol Tonight to explain how recent federal government actions have hurt refugee families and the non-profit agencies that serve them. Representatives of the upstate resettlement agencies were in Albany to discuss the New York State Enhanced Services for Refugees Program (NYSESRP) funding.
Refugees are legally in the United States. They have been fully vetted by the federal government and approved for resettlement. They fled their country because they were at risk of serious human rights violations and persecution and their own government could not or would not protect them from those dangers.
Leaders of upstate resettlement agencies joined lawmakers to make a case for an increase in NYSESRP funding in the next state budget.
