Internship Title: Preferred Communities Intern
Description: Interns work alongside case managers to provide extended medical case management to refugee clients through a mix of field and administrative work.
Hours: At least 8 hours per week / either one 8 hour day or two 4 hour days
Duration: A minimum of one full semester
Supervisor(s): Preferred Communities Program Coordinator
Skill Requirements:
- Ability to provide a “trauma-informed” approach and sensitivity to working with refugees and other vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of diverse cultures and/or willingness to learn cultural customs
- Comfortable working independently and in collaborative environments
- Good speaking, writing and listening skills
- Adherence to confidentiality policies
- Background in healthcare preferred
General Responsibilities:
Work with case managers to manage client files
- Help with apartment setups for new arrivals
- Educate clients on using public transportation
- Assist with paperwork and appointment scheduling
- Accompany clients to appointments, including but not limited to medical/immunization appointments, appointments with DSS and school enrollments
- Complete other duties as assigned
