Legal Intern
This internship offers hands-on experience with immigration law, including legal research, case preparation, and client interaction. The position is ideal for students passionate about public interest law and immigrant justice.
- Current law student (1L, 2L, or 3L) in good standing at an accredited law school
- Commitment to social justice and interest in immigration law; prior experience working with the international population or underserved communities is a plus
- Ability to provide a “trauma-informed” approach and sensitivity to working with refugees and other vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of diverse cultures and/or willingness to learn cultural customs
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Access to reliable transportation
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite
- Strong research, writing and organizational skills
- Adherence to strict guidelines regarding confidentiality
- Conduct legal research on immigration law topics, including refugee and asylum statutes, Afghan Special Immigrant Visa, Temporary Protected Status and Humanitarian Parole for Ukrainians, family-based petitions, adjustment of status, and consular processing.
- Draft legal memoranda, affidavits, and supporting documentation for USCIS and USCIS applications
- Assist attorneys in preparing for client interviews
- Participate in client intake and help maintain case files and documentation
- Attend internal legal team meetings and trainings
- Fill out the Intern Application Form
- Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator and Supervising Attorney
