Join The International Institute of Buffalo’s Interpreting & Translation Department for an informational event presented by Melissa Duquette & Tamara Alsace from Erie 1 BOCES and RBERN West. This is a virtual 2-hour event focused on interpreting for Committee on Special Education (CSE) Meetings.

WHEN: Thursday 12/07/2023, 9:00-11:00 a.m. —  Eastern Time USA/Canada

Participants will be provided structures and the resources to be effective in educational interpreting or translating assignments specific to special education.

  • Cultural beliefs about disability
  • Confidentiality

This class will also consist of a presentation, videos for discussion, as well as a brief Q&A period. There will be additional materials for you to self-study that will serve as a beneficial resource for you to use for review prior to your upcoming interpreter appointments. This will be sent to your email after the training. THIS TRAINING IS CENTERED ON INTERPRETING AND TRANSLATING IN AN AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM AND IS SPECIFIC TO THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IN NEW YORK STATE. All states vary in their public education standards and curriculum. This workshop is for interpreters who have experience interpreting for special education meetings in New York State.
