By July 19, 2023No Comments

Join Ryan Green, Translation Coordinator for the International Institute of Buffalo's Interpreting & Translation Department for a two-hour course on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 at 5:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time (USA/Canada) that will cover document formatting in Microsoft Word.

Open to document translators of all levels, this two-hour course will improve your document translation skills by helping you better understand how to format your translation well enough to make it appear closer to the original for a more professional-looking end product. Those looking to refresh their foundational skills are also welcome.

This session kicks off on Wednesday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. and will cover the basics of recreating documents in Word, including:

  • Creating templates, charts, text boxes, and
  • How to represent placeholders (signatures, photos, stamps, etc.) in your translations

The training will begin with explaining the basics of certificate translation, after which we will create a template from scratch. After that, we will look at how to use more advanced features of Word to fix a document to match the formatting up with the original document and to make the formatting consistent throughout.

This training aims to provide linguists with skills in the more advanced features of Microsoft Word, ultimately resulting in a higher-quality translation product. Note that the training will involve no translation, and all documents will be in English.
