Understand the Signs

Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of people through means of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of exploitation. This modern-day form of slavery subjects survivors to physical and psychological harm, manipulation and control.

We work closely with law enforcement and other community stakeholders on the Western District of New York Human Trafficking Task Force and the New York State Labor Task Force (WDNYHTTF – NYSLTF). Together, we support foreign-born people in our community who are forced into and exploited in industries such as the sex trade or in domestic, hospitality, and/or agricultural work. Partnering with us are the US Attorney’s Office of the Western District, Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
